Most figures above come from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an annual federal survey of the civilian, noninstitutionalized U.S. population. Texas figures are modeled state estimates and are presented as annual averages for 2022 and 2023.

“Any mental illness” and “serious mental illness” are survey measures defined by SAMHSA. They are not the same as a clinical diagnosis, and treatment categories can overlap.
